01 / Why regenerative

Everything good starts underground.

Conventional farming treats soil as something to hold a plant up while chemicals do the work. Regenerative farming treats it as a living thing. Feed the life in the soil and the soil feeds the crop, year after year, instead of a little less each season.

Improves Soil Health

Organic matter, fungi and earthworms come back. The soil turns dark, crumbly and alive.

Increases Water Retention

Living soil holds rain instead of shedding it. More moisture stays where the crop can use it.

Stronger Root Systems

Undisturbed soil lets roots run deep, reaching water and nutrients far below the surface.

What it does, in short
●Builds healthy soil
●Increases soil life
●Improves water retention
●Reduces erosion
●Stronger roots
●Healthier plants
●Better for future generations
02 / Our practices

How we farm, and what we leave out.

Grown with care. Rooted in health. Harvested for generations.

Stronger roots, better plants.

Fungicide Free

No fungicides used.

Regenerative Practices

Cover crops, crop rotation, no tillage, and more.

Evidence from the lands

The life that comes back is how we know it is working. These are our lands, photographed this season.

Mushrooms growing in the soya lands

Mushrooms coming up in the soya lands. Fungi are the first thing a fungicide kills, so finding them is a good sign.

Earthworm in the hand, in mulched no-till soil

Earthworms under the mulch. Undisturbed, covered soil is what brings them back.

Dung beetle in mulched soil on the farm

About 500 species of dung beetle occur in South Africa. They break down manure, aerate the soil and feed other insects and animals. Insecticides kill them, so we count them.

03 / Grains & prices

What we have in the bag.

Prices are per bag. Send a WhatsApp or an enquiry and we will confirm what is in the shed, then arrange collection from the farm or delivery.

Bees, and the honey they make.

We keep hives on these lands. Bees are the clearest test of whether a farm is honest about chemicals: insecticides kill pollinators, so a farm with healthy hives is a farm that leaves them out.

The honey is raw, from the same regenerative lands that grow the grain. Louise runs H2Honey and handles the honey orders.

The Odendaal family
Our story

The grain we sell is the grain we feed our own children.

H2 Agri is a family farm. Hendrik Odendaal farms Welgevonden, near Standerton in Mpumalanga, on land his family has worked for generations, and he has moved it over to regenerative practice: no tillage, permanent cover and careful rotation. He could see what the old way was costing the soil.

That change started in 2007. It was not a switch that got flipped. The old practices were phased out one at a time, over seasons, as the soil could carry it. Nearly twenty years on, the way the land holds water and feeds a crop is not the same land it was.

It is slower, it takes more thought, and it means going without the chemicals most farms rely on. We do it because the soil is what we are handing over, and we would rather hand over something better than we found.

Hendrik on #MeerAsGrond

“#MeerAsGrond maak díe week ’n draai in die Standerton omgewing in Mpumalanga, by Hendrik Odendaal, op sy plaas, Welgevonden, waar hy saam met sy pa herlewingslandboupraktyke toepas. Mens kan Hendrik goed beskryf met die ou gesegde “stille waters, diepe grond”. Die gesondheid van sy grond is vir hom allerbelangrik!”
